Backup claims that "There are no data file backups" on my computer
Doing some maintence on my backup sets this week i ran into problems. Typically I delete the mid month catalogs using "Manage Space", keeping the sets that include the last day of the month. If I still need space I move some of the "month end" sets to a different drive. When I did this most recently the Manage space utility no longer recognizes that I have any backups at all. Any Ideas how I can convince it otherwise?

How do you move the backup files? Do you still have backups on the backup location drive? If you move the backups to another driver, the “Manage Space” wizard will not be able to recognize the moved backups. Unless you change the backup location to the new drive. Arthur Xie - MSFT

I know that and it is not my concern. The problem is that the "Manage Space" wizard no longer recognizes the backups that were not moved. Space Usage summary: Data file backups: 0 bytes Other files: 68.93 GB Backup is functioning correctly and adding to the backup sets in the correct directory as well as creating new ones. The inabality to use the "Manage Space" wizard is an inconvenience and there should be some kind of fix available. --Steve

That is because Windows Backup is incremental backup. The recent sets of backups are based on the most original backup. The recent backups only backed up modified data. All sets are maintained by VSS service. In this case, backup files will take less space. Users do not need to delete backups in order to release spaces. Also you may encounter problems if you manually move some backups away from its original location. In this case, the recent backup sets may not store any data because no data was changed. Please move the backups back. If you would like to do any maintenance on the backup sets, please use “Manage Space”.Arthur Xie - MSFT
